Arizona CCW class

An Arizona CCW permit is optional for adults 21 and up, but it is the only way to carry in a bar or restaurant and it works in more than 30 other states. Tucson CCW classes typically run about six hours in a classroom and cost around $75. Arizona DPS also accepts hunter education, military training and NRA courses. Find a certified instructor through the Arizona DPS instructor search, and read Arizona Gun Laws before class.

Choosing a class

  • New shooters: a basic pistol course with rental guns before buying
  • Carry: CCW, then a holster and draw course
  • Defensive skills: force-on-force and low-light classes
  • Rifle: a carbine fundamentals class, then distance at Three Points
  • Competition: a USPSA or IDPA new-shooter briefing at a local match

Hunter education

Arizona Game and Fish offers classroom hunter education with a field day, free or up to $8, for ages 9 and up. Online versions cost about $30 to $50. Completing it counts as CCW training and earns a permanent bonus point for the big game draw. Details are on Hunting Basics.
